Common brand name: Xanax
Why is this drug prescribed?
Alprazolam is used to relieve anxiety disorders, or for the short-term
relief of anxiety symptoms or anxiety associated with depressive symptoms.
How and when should alprazolam be used?
Alprazolam comes in tablets, usually taken three times a day. Your
prescription label tells you how much to take at each dose. Follow these
instructions carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part
that you do not understand. Dosage must be individualized, and the smallest
effective dose should be used to avoid over-sedation.
What special instructions should I follow while using this drug?
- Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory so your response
to the drug can be monitored.
- Do not drive or operate dangerous machinery until you know how this drug

- Sudden changes in your position (such as sitting or standing from a lying
position) might cause dizziness. To decrease this side effect, dangle your
feet at your bedside before standing when getting out of bed.
- Do not drink alcoholic beverages.
- Do not take more than the prescribed amount of alprazolam. Do not take it
more often, and do not take it or a longer period of time than directed by your
doctor.

supply before going on vacation, holidays, or any other occasion when you
might
not be able to obtain it.

These conditions have occurred in some patients following rapid dose
reduction and/or abrupt discontinuation of alprazolam. (The risk of seizures

If these symptoms occur, stop taking the drug and contact your doctor
immediately.
When should I call my doctor?
